Feel Like a Competition

Feel Like a Competition

How v21 Studio reimagined Pacifica’s points and leaderboard

experience as a social arena -

an independent concept study.

Introduction

Pacifica

is one of the fastest-rising perp trading platforms, ranking

10th by perp volume over the last 30 days.

They've also done $3.6M in fees (30D), $143B in lifetime volume and currently hold $58M in open interest.

They already have the traders, the volume, and clear room to grow.

We saw the biggest and quickest in their leaderboard and points experience, which currently feels static and isolated.

We took the opportunity to turn the points page into a social arena, where progress, status and movement are visible to everyone.

This independent concept study shows what social competition can unlock for a protocol, and how you might apply it to your own product.

Opportunity

Pacifica has the volume, but the competition is invisible.

Traders earn points and climb the leaderboard, but no one feels like they're up against anyone. It's you against you.

FOMO

proved the opposite works: make competition public, and

trading becomes a spectator sport.

Three ways to make Pacifica's competition visible:

Three ways to make Pacifica's competition visible:

1

Turn the Leaderboard into an Arena:

A leaderboard is built for competition, but competition only bites when it's social - when traders can see who they're up against, ego kicks in and everyone wants the top spot.

iGaming platforms do this well: big rewards for the top 5, and in turn players generate much more volume to get there, compared to if prizes were evenly distributed.

We'd like to bring that competetive energy to Pacifica.

A clear, celebrated no. 1, a real dopamine hit for climbing, and rank and PnL that are easy to share.

When traders compete in public, they not only bring attention to themselves, but to the product as well.

2

Shareable Points:

Pacifica's points are currently private.

Variational

shows us what happens when they're not: traders

shows us what happens when they're not: traders post their weekly point growth, their rank and their valuation guesses everywhere - it's hard to miss on 𝕩.

post their weekly point growth, their rank and their valuation guesses everywhere - it's hard to miss on 𝕩.

We'd fold points into the leaderboard with shareable cards that show exactly where every trader stands.

FOMO grows on PnL flexes and rankings, and Variational grows on points and speculation.

Pacifica can do both, and turn its users into an army of influencers.

Visual Upgrade:

Right now the pages work, but they're just numbers.

We'd redesign them to be worth spending time on, so that climbing the rankings feels like an achievement and every screenshot stands out in a crowded feed.

Solution 01

Turning the leaderboard into an arena.

The current leaderboard shows rankings, but does not make the race for the highest PnL feel live. Traders could see their position, but not the social tension around moving up or being overtaken.

Desired Result:

The redesign puts that competition on stage.

A celebrated top three, live movement and personal scores show every trader who's ahead, who's catching up and what it takes to overtake them.

Countdowns add urgency, tiers and boosts give them a path to climb, and shareable stats carry the competition beyond the platform.

What was once a static table is now a live arena, one that drives volume on Pacifica and attention far beyond it.

Top 3 Traders

First, second and third place get the strongest visual emphasis. Rank is instantly visable and easy to share, so being #1 feels visible and worth fighting for. Additionally a live countdown to the next points cycle gives traders a deadline, and a reason to act now: climb, defend their spot or overtake the trader above them.

How It Works

A clear breakdown of how points are earned, how boosts apply and when cycles reset. Traders who understand the rules trade with intent, and a transparent system builds trust, so points feel earned rather than random.

Movement, Tiers & Boosts

Arrows show who's rising and who's falling, so the leaderboard shows momentum rather than a frozen ranking. Tiers signal status, and boosts reward consistent trading and referrals. Together they turn a static table into a live system traders can actively climb.

Activity

A calendar shows when you traded, and a cumulative chart shows how your points grew. Both are easy to share, and the same format can support PnL calendars or other performance views.

Solution 02

Making Pacifica more shareable.

Points are currently earned in private. Traders can see their progress, but there is no simple way to turn their rank, point growth, or performance into something visible beyond the platform.

We redesigned the experience around shareable cards that make each trader’s position easy to understand and easy to post. Rank, points, PnL, volume, and progress become part of a visual identity traders can take with them into the social feed.

Desired Result:

The redesign turns points from a hidden balance into public proof of progress.

Traders can share where they stand, how far they have climbed, and who they are competing against.

That gives users something to show off, compare, and rally around, while allowing the competition to extend beyond Pacifica itself.

Shareable Position Cards

Turn any rank into something worth showing off. Each card shows a trader's rank, total points and referral link in a clean format made for social media. Traders can lead with rank or points, whichever they're prouder of.

It's an early exploration of taking Pacifica beyond the platform. Every shared card is a flex, a comparison and a free ad.

Shareable Position Cards

PnL cards drive trading culture, from memecoins to perps. Bright colours, high contrast and a glowing headline number make every win impossible to scroll past. Each card carries Pacifica's branding and a referral link, so every flex doubles as an ad.

Solution 03

Elevate the visual experience.

A competitive product experience needs to feel as compelling as the behaviour it is trying to encourage. The existing pages communicated the information, but the visual system did not fully reflect the energy, status, and progression behind the competition.

We used the redesign to create stronger hierarchy, clearer emphasis, and a more distinctive visual language across the points and leaderboard experience.

Desired Result:

The visual redesign supports the two larger goals above it: making the competition easier to understand and making progress more rewarding to share.

Rather than treating the leaderboard as a utility page, the new direction gives it the visual weight of a central product experience.

The result is a system that feels more intentional, more recognizable, and better suited to the competitive behavior already happening inside Pacifica.

Conclusion

In a focused self-initiated sprint, we explored how Pacifica’s points and leaderboard experience could become more visible, social, and competitive.

We deliberately focused on one feature instead of attempting to redesign the entire product. That allowed us to go deeper into the details that shape the experience: rank visibility, movement, status, urgency, shareability, and the visual language surrounding them.

There is much more that could be explored, including additional incentive mechanisms, ranking systems, VIP tiers, progression loops, and other ways to make competition feel meaningful inside the product.

This study is only one direction.

The larger lesson is simple:

If valuable activity is happening inside your product, make it easier for users to see, understand, and share.

We hope this self-study gives you ideas you can apply to your own product.
